Many of you know that I was a skeptic about the potential of cloud computing and its impact on our business. This made it easy for me to be uncertain that this “new” thing held any potential for the business clients that we serve.
However, in my last entry I said that the cloud could:
- · Save me money
- · Simplify my technology environment
- · Let me do more with less
Let me tell you how this is true in RoseBud and I think you will be able to quickly make the jump to the situation in your own business.
First I should tell you that RoseBud is very much like many other businesses in that it has an in-house network of servers and PCs. These computers are used to support email, file sharing and file storage and in our case SharePoint is used as a collaboration platform. These computers require support and service just like yours do in order to keep the software up to date and the backups current and all of the fixes and changes current and documented. Just like your business we get the opportunity to upgrade to new software periodically and when we do, it frequently requires a new or upgraded server or PC. It takes additional time and resources to accomplish these tasks in order for us to remain current and up to date.
Now I know you’ll say that we are a technology company and you don’t upgrade as frequently as we do and this may very well be true. However, no matter how frequently you go through an upgrade the time, cost and disruption remain and the end result is the same. Your business and RoseBud are using the same software, running in the same kind of environment with the same need to stay current and insure reliability and support.
By the way it goes without saying that helping your business to accomplish this is how RoseBud generated much of its revenue in past years.
So, let’s say I take all of my email and all of my SharePoint capability and much of my file sharing and file storage and give this workload to someone else. And let’s say that this someone else can do this at least as well as I can – maybe better. As a result the technology environment at RoseBud is a lot less complicated, requires a lot less of our time to support and service and is better than it was before. In the meanwhile we still use the same software on our PCs and the same software that was on our servers.
By the way, no more effort or expense to upgrade hardware or software – I’m always current.
This frees me and others at RoseBud to do what we really want to do and that is help our clients make better use of the technology they have invested in already, whether in your office or in the cloud.
There is no doubt in my mind that the cloud can:
- · Save you money
- · Simplify your technology environment
- · Let you do more with less
I’d like to talk with you about taking your first step into the cloud NOW. As always, give me a call on this or any other technical topic.
